Job Shadow is an academically motivating activity designed to give
kids the unique opportunity of an up-close look at the world of work and
provide the answer to the commonly asked question, “Why do I have to
learn this?” The program invites students to see firsthand how the
skills learned in school relate to the workplace.
AT&T, AT&T Pioneers and Junior Achievement are joining together to
bring students to the workplace as part of the new AT&T Aspire
initiative announced in April. Starting in fall 2008, AT&T employees will
provide high school students with the opportunity to experience the
working world firsthand, matching “Connectors” (employee volunteers)
with a :Shadow” (high school students) to showcase the careers and
job skills that are made possible with a successful education.
Pioneers believe that by helping students graduate from high school
and encouraging them to continue their education or start building their
careers, we can help them succeed – not just in school but in life.
This is the largest corporate job-shadowing program ever undertaken
by Junior Achievement and the AT&T Pioneers.
Job Shadowing Initiative “Connecting Students to a World of Opportunity”
|
• Through the job shadowing initiative, we will reach 100,000
students across the United States during the next five years. This
is an investment of approximately 400,000 employee hours.
• AT&T and the AT&T Pioneers are strongly positioned to inspire
tomorrow’s
workforce through job shadowing. The AT&T workforce includes
some of the best and brightest in their fields across a diverse set
of career categories.
Make your plans and commitment to be a “Connector” this fall!
