Power Up To Read
A program created by Pioneers, PUTR is an educational project that focuses on reading skills for 4th and 5th graders.
We take time to deliver and read the books with the students. There is also a web-based component of the project that
helps encourage critical thinking and foster reading comprehension.
Job Shadowing
This project is an AT&T initiative that is administered by the Pioneers. Students are brought in to the workplace to
spend the day watching and learning from our employees. They experience the critical job skills necessary to perform
the tasks associated with different careers at AT&T.
Camp Bluebird
A weekend camp focused on adult cancer
patients and survivors that was started by
the Pioneers. There are two camps in
Mississippi that we support. Hattiesburg and
Tupelo both have a camp in the Spring and
in the Fall that are supported by the
Pioneers with monetary donations and
volunteer efforts. Photos
Playground Maps
Across the state, MS Pioneers have painted large, colorful maps of the United States on playgrounds at schools,
daycares, churches and other child care facilities. These maps provide a valuable lesson in geometry and a fun way to
learn for the children. This is a great Saturday morning type of event for the family.
Food Banks
Mississippi food banks benefit from the hard work of Pioneers all over the state. Collecting food through food drives and
raising funds that are then spent on buying bulk food products provide thousand of pounds of food that is donated to
food banks to feed the homeless and needy in the state of Mississippi.
