AT&T Pioneer Volunteers
Welcome to the Missouri Chapter home page. Our chapter covers the state
Louis, and further up the eastern side of the state to Hannibal. To the
west, we start in the St Joseph - Chillicothe area then go south to the
Kansas City area. We also have Pioneers in the Springfield, and Joplin areas.
About Us
Welcome to the Missouri website. Our chapter covers the state of Missouri
where AT&T has a presence. We go from the boot hill, up to St Louis, and
further up the eastern side of the state to Hannibal. To the west, we start
in the St Joseph- Chillicothe area then go south to the Kansas City area.
We also have pioneers in the Springfield, and Joplin areas.
Our chapter is already planning this next year, and if you are not a pioneer
please consider joining and helping us with one of our projects. We are
currently gearing up for the holidays with our pine tree project. Employees
are invited to buy two miniature, decorated live pines trees, one for
themselves and the second going to a predetermined hospital or long term
care facility. The hospitalized enjoy the cheer we bring them and a visit
from Santa.
We just completed manning our Senior Lounge at the Missouri State Fair
for the entire 10 days of the fair. Providing cool drinks and tram passes
keeps the Pioneers busy. Senior Day is really hectic for us as over 2600
people come through our location.
As school starts we are looking to make presentations of our mouse pads
to fourth grade students across the state. These mouse pads display
Internet safety rules for our children to protect them and preserve their
innocence. This project was a runner up at the annual Pioneer meeting. It
also received a grant from AT&T to continue our project, and monetary
award from the TelecomPioneers Foundation. Our playground map is a
school favorite project and we have lots of maps scheduled as soon as the
weather permits. We are always looking into other projects to further the
education of our students across the state.
Making our national parks and state parks handicap accessible is taking the
Pioneers to the Lake Wappapella near Poplar Bluff to help build an easy
access fishing ramp, another fishing ramp along the "Blue Hole" and an
easy access walkway along a playground area. Details are in the making
and we would love to have you join us on this project in the spring.
Of course, the Missouri Chapter has lots of 911 simulator demonstrations
scheduled along with working on our famous hug-a-bears.
Officers
The 2008 AT&T Missouri Chapter Pioneers are off to an awesome start.
The TelecomPioneers Annual Meeting was held in Austin Texas on February
28th through March 1, 2008. The Missouri Chapter received the following
awards:
2007 Individual Excellence Award – presented Kat Kissick, Past President of
the Gateway Council in St. Louis and current 2nd VP of the Missouri
Chapter. Kat created the first electronic newsletter for Gateway and
several distribution lists for all regular members in her council, totaling
approximately 1,000 members. Personally volunteered over 500 hours in
2007. She created and maintains the Pioneer Shared Drive. Kat also
received a Letter of Commendation from the St. Louis County, Missouri
Police Department. She encouraged her team to recruit over 300 new
members in 2006 and personally recruited over 100 new members.
Congratulations Kat!
2007 Community Impact Award – This award is designed to recognize a
Pioneer entity's overall cumulative impact on its community throughout the
year and over time. Judging evaluated benefit to the community,
recognition as leaders in the community, responsiveness to community
needs, community partnerships, impact of Pioneers on the community,
media mentions, and the engagement of Pioneers and non-Pioneers in
volunteerism.
We also won the Bronze Award which is given to the very elitist of chapters
for Heart of Pioneering awards, membership growth, community volunteer
hours and many other items.
We have fully integrated the legacy AT&T Pioneer units with the SBC legacy
Pioneer units. We are stronger than ever and we have the strength,
guidance and experience of over 100 years worth of our employees and
retirees working on Pioneer projects.
In 2007, our Pioneers volunteered more than 340,000 hours toward
making our communities better places to work and live. This equates to
over $6 million in manpower.
Some of the many projects we will continue to work on in 2008 are MAP
painting projects, 911 simulator, Junior Achievement, Adopt-a-Troop
(troops deployed in the Middle East), Mouse in the House project, helping
make Smithville Lake and Lake Wappapello handicap accessible, Project
Connect and Power Up To Read (PUTR) project. We are also planning a
“Go Green” project.
If there is a project you would like to see the pioneers get involved in,
please feel free to contact a pioneer. Please join us and help with one of
our many projects. We always have a great time on our projects and
benefit from the fellowship and lasting friendships we make while making
our communities a little better place to live in.
Have a great year
