| Safe Surfing Free educational courses for aging adults |
Bridging the digital divide so that everyone from children to
their grandparents can experience and access technology –
and do it safely – is the goal of an exciting new Pioneer project
called Safe Surfing, a program where Pioneer Volunteers will
teach older adults how to safely navigate the Internet.
The program includes a brief 15-20 minute presentation on
such topics as spam and scams, identity theft and credit card
fraud and includes materials for participants to take home.
Pioneer Volunteers will work with their local External or Public
Affairs contacts to schedule presentations and use this new
program to enhance relationships already established with
local senior centers or to develop new contacts with
organizations in communities.
This is a fun project – easy to do – less than 30 minutes – and
will leave you with the good feeling that you have provided
information to older adults that allows them to safely utilize the
Internet – from communicating with family and friends over e-
mail to researching information for entertainment and travel.
