Event: Make a Difference Day
When: October 24 2009 9:00 am - 12 noon
Where: Hidden Valley Park, Rancho San Rafael Park, and Washoe County Golf Course

The AT&T Silver State Pioneers, AT&T employees, members of our community and partnering with
the non-profit organization
Keep Truckee Meadows Beautiful, are volunteering together to clean and
preserve the natural beauty of Hidden Valley Park, Washoe Golf Course, and the Rancho San Rafeal
Regional Park.

For the past 50 years, the AT&T Pioneers have volunteered through grass roots projects to make a
difference in both urban and rural areas.  Our projects are developed in response to needs identified
through local community contacts and partnerships.

In response, to the recent world focus on environmental awareness and clean energy, the AT&T
Pioneers have combined the elements of our current grass-roots beautification projects with the
living green concept, volunteering to

  • clean parks and beaches,
  • plant native trees, bushes and flowers,
  • remove roadside trash,
  • build trails and ramps in city, state and federal parks and
  • recycle cell phones, printer cartridges and other technology-related equipment/products.

Silver State Chapter Pioneers Initiate Pilot Program. . .
Sparking a Clean, Green Planet!
A study of existing and prospective Pioneers led by an independent research firm found that
Pioneers today are particularly interested in “one-shot deals” for volunteering. Their ideal volunteer
project would take place on the weekend and allow family members and friends to participate, too.

Pioneers Headquarters listened to what members and prospective members had to say and a series
of pilot projects that meet these criteria will be launched in the fourth quarter of 2009.

The Silver State Chapter was selected to pilot the Sparking a Clean, Green Planet project.
